What is the role of ZooKeeper?
The ZooKeeper utility provides configuration and state management and distributed coordination services to Dgraph nodes of the Big Data Discovery cluster.
It ensures synchronization, event notification, and coordination between the nodes.
Why Kafka is so fast?
Kafka relies on the filesystem for the storage and caching. The problem is disks are slower than RAM. This is because the seek-time through a disk is large compared to the time required for actually reading the data. But if you can avoid seeking, then you can achieve latencies as low as RAM in some cases.
What is ACK in Kafka?
An acknowledgment (ACK) is a signal passed between communicating processes to signify acknowledgment, i.e., receipt of the message sent. The ack-value is a producer configuration parameter in Apache Kafka, and can be set to following values: acks=0. The producer never waits for an ack from the server.
Is ZooKeeper a load balancer?
AWS Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) can be classified as a tool in the “Load Balancer / Reverse Proxy” category, while Zookeeper is grouped under “Open Source Service Discovery”.
Why do zookeepers use odd numbers?
Because Zookeeper requires a majority, it is best to use an odd number of machines. In ZooKeeper, an even number of peers is supported, but it is normally not used because an even sized ensemble requires, proportionally, more peers to form a quorum than an odd sized ensemble requires.
How do I know if my Kafka broker is down?
I would say that another easy option to check if a Kafka server is running is to create a simple KafkaConsumer pointing to the cluste and try some action, for example, listTopics(). If kafka server is not running, you will get a TimeoutException and then you can use a try-catch sentence.
Is ZooKeeper a database?
A large cluster of NoSQL databases is an unwieldy thing to manage. Apache Zookeeper to the rescue! Keeping track of which nodes are in the cluster, what data each is managing, and ensuring that new masters are selected when a master fails aren’t easy tasks.
Why does Kafka use ZooKeeper?
Kafka needs ZooKeeper Kafka uses Zookeeper to manage service discovery for Kafka Brokers that form the cluster. Zookeeper sends changes of the topology to Kafka, so each node in the cluster knows when a new broker joined, a Broker died, a topic was removed or a topic was added, etc.
What is ZooKeeper list the benefits of it?
Benefits of ZooKeeper Synchronization − Mutual exclusion and co-operation between server processes. This process helps in Apache HBase for configuration management. Ordered Messages. Serialization − Encode the data according to specific rules. Ensure your application runs consistently.
What problem does ZooKeeper solve?
Zookeeper is used to achieve resource consistency into a distributed system. Apache Kafka relies on Zookeeper for multiple purpose : To persist cluster metadata and topic configuration in reliable way.
Does Kafka still need ZooKeeper?
1) ZooKeeper is still required for running Kafka, but in the near future, ZooKeeper dependency will be removed from Apache Kafka. See the high-level discussion in KIP-500: Replace ZooKeeper with a Self-Managed Metadata Quorum. These efforts will take a few Kafka releases and additional KIPs.
Does Kubernetes use ZooKeeper?
If Kubernetes reschedules the Pods, it will update the A records with the Pods’ new IP addresses, but the A records names will not change. ZooKeeper stores its application configuration in a file named zoo.
Can Apache Kafka work without ZooKeeper?
You can not use kafka without zookeeper. … So zookeeper is used to elect one controller from the brokers. Zookeeper also manages the status of the brokers, which broker is alive or dead. Zookeeper also manages all the topics configuration, which topic contains which partitions etc.
What happens if ZooKeeper goes down in Kafka?
For example, if you lost the Kafka data in ZooKeeper, the mapping of replicas to Brokers and topic configurations would be lost as well, making your Kafka cluster no longer functional and potentially resulting in total data loss.
